Driving innovation and engineering the future of ground gas science

At GGS, innovation is at the center of everything we do. We are a team of ground gas scientists and so we apply our knowledge and experience to our approaches. This means that staying up to date with changes in legislation, science and the latest research is crucial.

This year, we plan to take growth further through our technology and research. Here are some of the strategies the team has been working on.

The Gas Sentinel®

We developed our own sophisticated monitoring instrument, the Gas Sentinel®, which we use on lots of our projects. We developed a dedicated solution that could measure a variety of environmental parameters.

As a result of this research GGS created a data logging device that generates insights to variations in ground gas behaviour using interchangeable sensors. Trace gases can be measured including methane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, oxygen, hydrogen sulphide, TVOC and hydrogen. It’s an incredibly reliable tool that has produced high quality data for thousands of projects. But the enhancements with our Gas Sentinel® are always ongoing, such as recent improvements to telemetry, sensors and connectivity.

Telemetry, sensors and connectivity

One of our previous adaptations is feeding live data to an online portal – our configurable Unity® Platform. This is incredibly useful when critical decisions on site need to be made, for example, complying with Health and Safety exposure.

More recently, we have improved our 4G comms to offer further adaptability to our clients. Increased flexibility improves the user experience and has looked to address client feedback.

Software and data tool improvements

We are currently investigating methods to improve the Unity® platform so our clients can view and interpret data sets in new and more informative ways.

We’ve also recently enhanced our site app to further streamline reporting for our staff and plan to make further updates in the future to remain dynamic in response to client need.

Technical publications and research

Last year we released our popular white paper on atmospheric pressure, which offered a variety of new approaches when considering the impact of adverse weather conditions in site reports. This resource spread industry-wide and helped provide new innovative analysis of data, which was then followed by a calculating tool.

Our technical research will be ongoing with the likely release of a brand new whitepaper. Beyond this too, we are advising on several key technical publications which will drive further change in the ground gas industry.

Innovation as a core value

We are not just looking to improve the way we measure ground gas this year. We will also be innovating with our team and it is a key consideration in our business and growth plan. Operational improvements are a collaborative effort and are driven by all of our staff who frequently make suggestions to improve efficiency.

GGS are adopting new approaches in our assurance processes, pre-site checks and rigorous data validation before, during and after deployment. Beyond this, our team are also hard at work bringing new innovative training solutions to the industry.

Looking ahead

Without innovation in ground gas science, industry protection standards cannot improve. As we look to advance how we measure ground gas, another dynamic year approaches.

Keep an eye out for key developments and announcements from us as we enhance and innovate not just at GGS, but ground gas science in the industry as a whole. If you would like to learn more about our approaches and work with us this year, do contact us.

The following pages include news articles, videos, guidance notes and white papers on a range of ground gas related topics which we hope you will find of interest. Please browse through but if you can’t find something on your particular issue of interest, we’d be very pleased to hear from you so we can put that right.
