Simon Talbot and John Naylor talk about how far the business has come and what’s next for GGS.

I’m so very proud of what the company and its staff have achieved over this time. Since collaborating on a University of Manchester research project thirteen years ago to develop an improved technique for characterising ground-gas hazards, GGS has become the market leader in continuous ground-gas monitoring and risk assessment with an international reputation. It’s a moment for reflection on winning our first contract in 2009, our first contracts in Europe and Australia a few years later, and our first £million turnover.

This success is down to the considerable team effort of GGS’ fantastic staff who work all hours to deliver a trusted and valued service that aims to exceed our client’s expectations. I cannot thank our excellent managers and dedicated staff enough – the company wouldn’t function without you.

GGS Timeline

GGS at 10 years: Timeline

Special thanks go to Dr Steve Boult from the University of Manchester, whose encouragement back in early 2009 led me to create GGS. Particular thanks and praise go to John Naylor, who joined as our Technical Director in that first year and whose patience, deep knowledge and technical understanding has underpinned the company’s design and development of our flagship monitoring instrument – the GasSentinel®.

So, after achieving so much in the first ten years, I’m very much looking forward to the challenges and successes of the next ten.

All the best from Simon and everyone at GGS!
